SurfSecret Personal Firewall Review

SurfSecret is a no frills firewall that provides little functionality above the free Windows Firewall included with Windows XP.

Installation and Configuration

SurfSecret installed quickly and easily on our test computer. Unlike other programs, it did not require a learning period. However, upon closer inspection we discovered that this was because it doesn't appear to monitor outgoing traffic.

Usability

SurfSecret is very usable. Beyond installation, there is virtually nothing that you need to do. However, there is a downside to this; the program provides a bare minimal level of protection. We would expect a commercial firewall product to provide some additional protection such as blocking ads, hostile websites, cookies, or popups. SurfSecret does none of this.

Summary

SurfSecret's firewall product appears to offer no additional protection over the basic Windows firewall product. You're better off looking elsewhere.
