What is "Dual-Layer" and Why Does It Matter?
Recently there has been considerable talk about "dual layer" DVDs. Dual layer DVD technology, sometimes referred to as DVD9, offers twice the storage capacity of the common DVD RWs that most of us currently use to burn DVDs. Instead of 4.7Gb, they hold a whopping 8.5Gb of data (or 4 hours of high-quality video for you non-techies).
The major benefit of this technology is that you will no longer need to compress your movies onto a single DVD (and lose quality or bonus features), nor will you have to break it up onto two DVDs (and lose compatibility with many DVD players, not to mention using up twice as many DVDs).
Want more? DVD9 technology has been around for years - and in fact most of your commercial DVDs follow this standard. Because dual layer technology is DVD9 compatible, they'll work in more DVD players than ever.
Yes, you will need a new DVD burner and a new batch of dual layer DVDs. But the copies you make will be more like the original than anything you've been able to make before.
This is an exciting new development in DVD backup technology, so DVD Copier Review will begin testing each of the products we recommend to determine if they will support dual layer DVDs (and yes, to toot our own horn, we are the first review site to do so).
Enjoy!
